SMED Expert HPDC
Objective
Responsible for leading and optimizing die changeover processes in High Pressure Die Casting operations. This role focuses on implementing and sustaining SMED methodologies to minimize downtime, improve machine availability, and enhance overall equipment efficiency (OEE). The expert will collaborate with cross-functional teams to standardize best practices, train personnel, and drive continuous improvement in line with lean manufacturing principles.
Main Responsibilities
- Analyze current die changeover processes and identify improvement opportunities using SMED principles.
- Lead and execute SMED workshops and kaizen events within the HPDC area.
- Develop, standardize, and implement die changeover procedures and best practices.
- Collaborate with tooling, production, and maintenance teams to improve changeover tooling and equipment.
- Ensure proper documentation of standardized work instructions and changeover guidelines.
- Train and coach technicians, supervisors, and operators on SMED methodology and practices.
- Track and report on changeover performance, downtime, and productivity improvements.
- Promote a culture of continuous improvement and lean thinking across the HPDC operations.
Position Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Industrial, Mechanical, or Manufacturing Engineering.
- At least 3 years of experience in: SMED in High Pressure Die Casting (HPDC), SMED implementation and Lean Manufacturing practices.
- Lean Six Sigma Green Belt certification or higher (preferred).
- Proficiency in data analysis and problem-solving tools, including Pareto, Fishbone (Ishikawa), and 5 Whys (required).
- Knowledge of automation systems related to die change (preferred).
- Strong understanding of tooling systems, die setup, and casting machine operation.
- Intermediate English proficiency (preferred).
