Objective
Responsible for the developing, organizing, administering, and maintaining a safe and health work environment by assisting all departments in protecting employees, visitors, vendors and contractors from safety and environmental hazards by recognizing, evaluating, and controlling all health, safety and environmental hazards at Nemak - Alabama. These goals are to be accomplished by maintaining compliance with Federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Standards, Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Standards, Alabama Department of Environmental Management (ADEM) Standards, ISO-14001 Standards and those adopted by the state and local agencies. Assist all departments to comply with health, safety and environmental requirements by training associates and managers on health, safety and environmental standards, by consulting with departments on health, safety and environmental issues, and by conducting audits and inspections of health, safety and environmental hazards and complaints.
Main Responsibilities
- Maintaining a safe and healthy work environment.
- Provide introductory and awareness training on health, safety and environmental standards, regulations, rules, policies, procedures, and safe work practices.
- Develop and recommend programs and procedures that will assist Nemak - Alabama to meet and/or exceed OSHA, EPA, ADEM and ISO-14001 standards.
- Assist all departments in implementing programs and procedures that are adopted by Nemak Alabama. Examples of such programs and procedures include: Lock Out/Tag Out, Confined Space, Personal Protective Equipment, etc.
- Investigate specific health, safety and environmental violations, possible hazards, and associate complaints. Advise departments on ways of eliminating and/or controlling these hazards.
- Operate, maintain, and calibrate a variety of Industrial Hygiene equipment.
- Conduct workplace safety audits, which include, but are not limited to mechanical, noise, electrical, chemical, fire, and ergonomic hazards.
- Coordinate all investigations of work-related injuries and illnesses and make follow-up recommendations to minimize reoccurrence.
- Maintain OSHA 300 logs and reports in accordance with OSHA standards.
- On-site supervisor of nursing staff.
- Administer and maintain ISO-14001 Environmental Management System, Worker’s Compensation program, Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP), Solid Waste management program, Spill Prevention Control and Countermeasures (SPCC) Plan.
- Review Health, Safety and Environmental policies, programs, procedures and records for effectiveness.
Position Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety and Health, Environmental Management or related field
- 3+ years experience at HSE Management level
- Knowledge of the following agencies and their standards and codes: Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), American National Standards Institute (ANSI), National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) and the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), Environmental Protection Agency and ISO-14001.
